Tags: PicturesWheeew, that took a bit but the updated pictures have been posted. I hope to post a few vids soon too, just need to find the time. Swing over to the pictures section and check them out.
Tags: PicturesYea, gonna try and get the netbook remix loaded on to Mom’s Dell mini 9, the beta worked well so I’m hoping for good things.
I know I’m late again on pics, I’m most of the way through them and have some free time this weekend so hopefully I’ll post them this weekend.
Tags: Pictures, UbuntuI’m a terrible person and have not updated in a long long long time, for that I apologize. Been plenty busy around here.
Kaylee’s now fully walking, trying to run when she can. I’m working on some updates as far as pictures and some video clips hopefully. Check back soon!
Everyone thinks their kid is smart and I’m not trying to brag, I just think some of the things Kaylee has been doing lately are very funny so I wanted to share and let you all know how she’s progressing. I figure I’ll just list it all out; sorry if this seems like a ton of stuff but I’ve been behind on posting lately so I guess this is how I’ll do it. This morning she said Da Da, she’s been saying Ma Ma for some time now. For some odd reason she still won’t hold her own bottle to eat. She’s still crawling right now, lightning fast at this point, and pulling her self up on everything she can reach. She isn’t walking but has on a few occasions stood unsupported for a few seconds. She has also tried to take a few steps here and there but hasn’t really walked unsupported, though she has taken 3 steps or so supported by her walking toy, she only did this once though. Kaylee loves peek-a-boo, she will crawl around a corner and peek her head around to play, and at times she also will take a blanket and cover her face and then pull it down and laugh.
She’s really recognizing things and figuring things out. She knows what a duck and turtle are, she has tub toys of both and can identify them. She likes to play with the TV remotes, she’s been doing this for a long time now, but last night I realized rather than just chewing on it she was specifically trying to push buttons on it and after she would push one she would look up at the TV to see if she had made any changes. She likes to do so big and paddy cake, she’s got the clapping down and does it most times she’s excited about something. She also realized, I believe from the night the movie was taken below, that she’s a big hit with everyone if she can show off and do so big, so anytime she meets someone new she throws her arms in the air to show them and then proceeds to clap. Along with doing these claps she also noticed when the Little Einstein characters were singing a song on the TV show about clapping she watched and started to clap along. The other day in the car on the way to Grandma’s house I sang a song to her, I know it was as bad as you think it would be, she had her pacifier in at the time, and she actually spit it out to help sing along. Well to squeak and do her equivalent of singing at least.
She’s eating some finger food, she loves corn poofs and graham crackers. She has been using her fingers in a pincher motion to pick these foods up since Christmas. Just recently she’s started to share her food. She’ll pick it up and show the person feeding her and at times will put it in their mouth, she’ll laugh when you bite down and crunch the food. She’s also figuring out how to climb on things, she uses me as a climbing point any time I’m laying on the ground with her. Last night she used me to climb up on the couch, she would climb up turn around and plop down and giggle while she sat there like a big girl. She then spun around back on her stomach and figured out how to slide down the couch and back on to the floor by herself. She then proceeded to do this 5-6 times in a row. This morning Jennie said she took her little shoes and made them move in a walking motion, I didn’t see it myself but pretty funny.
Sorry about the long list but figured I would try and list everything.
Late edit: She said “bye” to me today!!!
Tags: KayleeSo Kaylee has been learning quite a few funny things as of late, more on that in my next post but here is a funny video of her doing so big. This is over at Uncle Mike and Aunt Katie’s house. Kaylee realized that everyone was very excited when she did the so big so she now follows it with some clapping for herself. Pretty funny stuff, you can also see in the Mickey video I posted earlier she busts a so big in there at one point too. Here is the vid:
So Kaylee has been paying more attention to TV as of late and I guess I don’t think it’s a terrible deal. I like to let her watch the playhouse Disney lineup on weekends. It’s pretty funny because she’s actually getting to the point where she recognizes the characters and the songs from the shows. Her two favorite shows are My Friends Tigger and Pooh and Mickey Mouse’s Clubhouse. At the end of Mickey’s show they do the Hot Dog Dance, this also happens to be Kaylee’s favorite part. They have a copy of the dance here:

Here is a video of her reaction to the song and dance from the show
Figured I would go with a picture that goes with the season a bit more, except I didn’t mess with the other colors so it looks a bit off, but I still like it.
So I got my Dlink DGL-4300 back up and working by some miracle, some of the steps were posted below but I honestly have no idea why it started working again, all I know is that I saved some money not having to replace a router or two. I ordered an Asus WL-520gU router for very cheap to add as a wireless bridge using DD-WRT as was discussed a bit below. Once the 4300 was back up and running it only took me about an hour or so to get the WL-520gU flashed to DD-WRT and setup as a wireless bridge connected to my local network. Now I can provide a wired connection to places I couldn’t run a cable to, pretty handy! I found out that the Asus is one of the more user friendly models that supports DD-WRT, Asus provides a windows utility that you can run to flash to updated firmware which includes DD-WRT. I would say if you are looking for a reasonably priced G router to check this one out!
More info on DD-WRT here

Had you going there for a minuet, but honestly I didn’t do anything out of the ordinary, I ended up completely screwing up my router. So I had a Dlink DGL-4300 router, it’s been more or less very good for the past few years except for the power adaptor going out. Good router overall but what happened was I went into the settings to enable a different wireless security option, I attempted to enable WPA2 which is considered the strongest security setting available for this router. I was then prompted to reboot the router, then nothingness, it hasn’t worked since. I spend 1.5 hours on the phone with Dlink tech service and it’s totally gone. They issued me an RMA but the problem with that is it’s out of the 1 year warranty period so I’ll have to pay to get it fixed which will cost 50% or more of the cost for a brand new router. The part that really bothers me is the fact that this function is built right into the settings of the router and should not cause any issues and function properly but because I’m out of warranty Dlink won’t help me out. Issues like this should be covered regardless because it is a function that should properly work for the router and the security features are especially important in this day and age. It’s not like I tried to install 3rd party firmware or anything I just attempted to activate security features and now it’s bricked.
I’ve been researching all week into getting a new draft N router, N is the new but not fully completed wireless standard. I was hesitant to move to N because it’s not final yet but I’m also leery of spending money on G when N can be had a bit more money. One of the things I would like to accomplish with this new setup is get a router or two to setup as wireless bridges. A wireless bridge can provide me a wired connection to a device that doesn’t have a wireless receiver, i.e. an original Xbox running XBMC. Most routers don’t ship with the ability to run as a wireless bridge in the vendor firmware so I’ve been searching high and low for fairly reasonably priced N routers capable of running the DD-WRT firmware. DD-WRT is Linux based open source firmware that adds a more robust set of options and functionality to most routers, one of the options is to set the router as a wireless bridge, which is exactly what I’ve been looking for.
Now I just need to decide on the equipment to get, since N is still not ratified there are tons of different options out there and it has been very confusing. Some options include routers that operate on the 5Ghz frequency, this is supposed to help throughput because it avoids the very busy and often used 2.4Ghz frequency. Trouble with that is the routers that are “dual band” and run on both are more expensive and the only way to utilize this band is to have 5Ghz ready receiving devices which are also much more expensive. But I digest-Peter Griffin reference, so my head has been spinning with all these options and questions to whether or not any of this will even work. Gonna take the plunge here soon, I’ll have to update once it’s all done and let everyone know, like you care, if any of this actually works.
Here are a few links to places that were helpful when doing my research
SmallNetBuilder’s wireless charts
Cnet’s top N routers
Update: Got home tonight to do some testing with the new routers, figured I would give it one last shot with a 30-30-30 hard restart method. Hold down with power on 30 sec, remove power while still holding hard restart for 30 sec, plug back in while still holding hard restart for 30 sec and release. It works!!!!!!!!!!! Yes this is gonna save me some money and headache, too bad I spent a lot of time doing all this research.
